I Love to Read Month: February 2023
I Love to Read Month was a month-long celebration of all things reading. Not that anyone happening upon this web page needs an excuse to celebrate reading, but in February we amp it up a notch.
Stories Connect Us: We Are More Alike Than Different
I Love to Read Month Theme for 2023: “Stories Connect Us"
There are many links that can be made to this open-ended theme from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Diverse perspectives through “mirrors, windows and sliding glass doors” should be at the forefront of the stories we share with students. Story is powerful, but there are dangers in hearing only a single story (Chimamanda Ngozie Adich
ie). We should all be encouraged to share our own stories – all people, Indigenous peoples, settlers and immigrants alike. We should also be open to hearing others’ stories as a way of becoming a more peaceful, understanding world.
